There are a lot of Myths out there about car repair, so we want to break it down for you in this edition of Automotive Break Down from your automotive experts at Jay Walton Automotive. We are taking a look at the Check Engine Light
Myth #1 – You can ignore it and it doesn’t matter
Don’t leave a check engine light unchecked. You could increase the problems with your vehicle and get yourself stranded in the mean while.
Myth #2 – A check engine light diagnostic should be FREE.
At Jay Walton Automotive, we offer an in-depth check engine light analysis for a fee, because it is important to solve the real problem, the first time. We are always happy to explain the difference between our diagnostic process and a quick read from a cheap tool.
Myth #3 – All you have to do is replace the part from the check engine error code.
For some businesses, they really just sell parts. They do a quick scan and sell you the parts on the list. They may not even solve your problem, and you’ll return with the light back on. We’re not going to put you through that because we go much deeper to get to the bottom of your repair. To do an accurate diagnosis, the proper equipment and training are required. An inaccurate “guess” from a quick scan, may not address the root of the problem. This misses a number of other codes and is not manufacturer specific. They start a trial and error process with parts and hope the codes go away.
To get an accurate diagnosis, an expensive and complex computer called a scanner is used. This tool not only reads the codes, it gives us real-time readings on sensors and other crucial components in the vehicle. This allows the technician to pinpoint the problem with accuracy. Our entire process is done by a trained technician who has attended tech school or taken classes and is ASE – Automotive Service Excellence – Certified. At Jay Walton Automotive Service and Collision repair, all mechanical repairs come with a 36 Month / 36,000 Mile nationwide warranty, so every effort is made to insure that the diagnosis is accurate and the repair is done right!
